NATCHEZ — Services for Sam Hawkins Jr., of Vidalia, who died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Daughter of Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Troy Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Adams County, the son of Sam Hawkins and Laura B. Hawkins. He was employed as a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary J. Hawkins; five sisters; nine nephews; and three nieces.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Hawkins; 10 daughters, Mary Allen of Newnan, Ga., Barbara Green, Juanita Hawkins and Jessie White, all of Natchez, Betty Collins of Lancaster, Texas, Dinah Johnson, Chakatria Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., Ruthel Johnson of Baton Rouge, Addie Hooper and husband, Donald, and Quenta Johnson, all of Vidalia; three sons, Lawrence Hawkins of Natchez, Casey Johnson and wife, Angel, and Charles Johnson, all of Vidalia; 40 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; eight nieces; four nephews; and a number of other relatives and friends.
