NATCHEZ — Services for J.C. Harris, 68, of Natchez, who died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Green Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mr. Harris was born Dec. 9, 1941, in Franklin County, the son of Douglas and Josephine Fells Harris. He was a 1961 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School. He retired in 2001 from Coca Cola Bottling Company after 36 years of service as a bottler/forklift driver.

Mr. Harris was a faithful and devoted member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church choir. He was a longtime member of the quartet group The Southland Singers. He was also a Sadie V. Thompson Era Reunion member Era Reunion Thompsonaires.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Evelyn Marie Gordon Harris; and eight siblings.

Survivors include a loving and devoted daughter, Marilyn Denise Harris of Natchez; a loving and dedicated son, Anthony Marshall Harris of Minneapolis, Minn.; two special grandchildren, Veronica Renee Harris of Charlotte, N.C., and Anthony Marshall Harris Jr. of Minneapolis; stepmother, Mae Ella Harris of Meadville; one aunt, Lillie B. Hunt of Roxie; seven sisters, Shelley Dickey and husband, Thomas, and Sharon Elmore, all of Natchez, Elmerie Shaw and Prentiss Harris, both of Bude, Willie Lee Hunt, Pearla Mae Griffin and Floann Harris, both of Meadville; two brothers, Billy Harris and wife, Rita, of Bossier City, La., and McArthur Harris and wife, Mary, of Brookhaven; 10 sisters-in-law, Marguerite Harris Brookhaven, Peggy Mayberry and husband, Harry, and Helen Gordon, all of New Hope, Minn., Carolyn Gordon and Eddice “Elaine” White, both of Minneapolis, Jacqueline Blackwell and Iona Hickingbottom of Natchez, Connie Alcorn of Baton Rouge and Inez Gordon of Riverside, Calif.; one uncle-in-law, James Dottery Sr. of Riverside; one aunt-in-law, Lillian Taylor of Natchez; three brothers-in-law, Henry “Wilbert” Gordon and wife, Nola, of Natchez, Donald Gordon of Minneapolis and Dewayne Blackwell of Natchez; a special nephew, J.W. Hall and wife, Brenda, of Natchez; two special nieces, Brenda Albert and Linda Gooseberry; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be J.W. Hall Jr., Earl Lee Gordon, Reggie Flower, DeWayne Blackwell, Bernard Harris and Juan Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers will be the class of 1961.
