NATCHEZ — Services for John David Murphy, 56, of Natchez, who died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daughter of Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. D.W. Howard officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the directions of R.D. Mackel and Sons.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Murphy was born Aug. 1, 1953, in Natchez, the son of Phillip and JoAnna Hawkins Murphy.

He was a graduate of North Natchez High School class of 1971 and Oral Robert University. He served in the United States Army and was a 33rd degree Mason. He was an ordained deacon and Bible study teacher.

Survivors include a son, Chokesa Johnson of Monroe, La.; a daughter, Efetoya Johnson of Natchez; a brother, Phillip Murphy Jr. of Washington D.C.; four grandchildren, Jasmine, Torian, Tomara and Tamara; two sisters, Susie M. Haywood of Natchez and Angie Reeves and husband, Emanuel, of Memphis, Tenn.; one aunt, Joseph Hawkins; godfather, Rev. John Perry; god sisters, Laura W. Dunmore, Laura A. Hawkins and Tanya Santucci, all of Natchez; a number of other relatives and friends; and prayer partner and cousin, Fannie Ford Davis of Chicago.
