NATCHEZ — Natchez police have arrested a New Orleans man in connection with last month’s shooting on North Commerce Street Extension.

Lee Raymond Clay, 22, 2201 Manhattan Blvd., No. 02-05, New Orleans, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Wednesday, Lt. Craig Godbold said. Clay is being held at the Natchez City Jail without bond.

Investigators suspect Clay shot John Lewis, 30, in the arm at 11:58 p.m. June 7. According to previous reports, officers were dispatched to Lewis’ house and saw two people wearing ski masks fleeing the scene.

Lewis claimed his assailant shot him and robbed him of cash.

Godbold said it has not been determined whether Clay is linked to two other incidents that happened that week.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. June 7, two males armed with pistols entered Kentucky Fried Chicken on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive. The suspects aimed their pistols at employees and attempted to open the cash register.

Police Chief Mike Mullins said in a previous report the suspects were unsuccessful in accessing the cash register, and fled the scene on foot before police arrived. The suspects, however, did manage to steal a customer’s wallet, which contained a small amount of cash.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. June 6, Keith Fry, 32, was shot while driving through a parking lot on East Franklin Street. Fry was hit in the shoulder and the leg.

Mullins said evidence suggests all three incidents are related.
