WCCA eases to victory on homecoming night

WOODVILLE — Five different players scored rushing touchdowns for Wilkinson County Christian Academy as the Rams celebrated homecoming with a dominating 56-0 win over the Union Christian Academy Lions in MAIS District 3-A action Friday night.
The No. 2 team in Class A got touchdown runs from Quincy Thompson, L.J. Jackson, Kaleb Sterling, Austin Goodfellow and John Norwood. Thompson had two touchdown runs and scored on a 2-yard fumble recovery.
By the time the first quarter was over, the Rams had a commanding 29-0 lead, and they scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter for a 43-0 lead at halftime.
Norwood came in for starting quarterback Taylor Prevost in the fourth quarter and the game well in hand. Norwood threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Washington.
WCCA’s defense allowed just two first downs and held Union Christian (0-8, 0-5) to minus-29 yards rushing and minus-11 yards of total offense. Lane Ivy led the Rams with eight tackles and six sacks. Tyler Radley had three sacks and Jamal Vessell added two sacks of his own.
WCCA (6-1, 4-0) plays at Tallulah Academy at 7 p.m. next Friday.
