Polls will continue to take votes until 7 p.m.”If you1re still in the polling precinct at 7 p.m., you can still cast your ballot,” Ferguson said.Larry Gardner, deputy circuit clerk, said today1s election is a rare opportunity. “Now is the time to determine who will run our government,” he said. “You can’t complain if you don’t vote. You need to exercise your right to vote.”Today, candidates of the same political party will square off against one another to see who will carry the party banner in the general election.”I think we1ll have a run-off election in the coroner1s race and in the fifth district supervisor1s race,” Ferguson said. The run-off is Aug. 24.For those people wondering if they’re eligible to vote, Ferguson said you only need to be registered in the circuit clerk1s office 30 days prior to the election. “If you move within the county, register your change of address 30 days prior to the election,” he said.For voters wishing to vote by absentee ballot, Ferguson said they need to request their absentee ballot as early as possible. Voters may request a ballot for the primary run-off on the Wednesday following the first primary.Ferguson said he anticipates about 350 absentee ballots to be cast for this primary. The first ballot boxes should reach the circuit clerk’s office beginning at 7:45 p.m. today, with tabulation of all boxes complete around 9 p.m., said Ferguson.
