NATCHEZ — Proud cat owners looking to show off their pampered felines have until Monday to register for Natchez’s second annual cat show.
The Mississippi Cat Fanciers Allbreed Championship and Household Pet Cat Show is Oct. 13 at the Natchez Community Center. Show manager Jo Parris said the show will give cat owners the chance to enter their pets in the cat and kitten pedigree and household contests for the show.
Cat lovers, she said, will have the opportunity to take a look at some rare breeds, including Himalayan, Siamese, Persian and Maine coons, up close.
“Anybody who likes cats should come out,” Parris said. “It’s just a lot of fun, and you’ll get to look at all the different cat breeds we have and meet fellow cat lovers.”
The show is organized with a bench area where spectators can approach exhibitors, meet the cats and ask questions.
Cats are assigned a number and winning cats will first be narrowed down according to breed, and then the best of the best kittens and cats will be announced.
The show will feature morning and evening sessions. Registration is $42 per session.
A professional cat photographer will be on hand for anyone wishing to have photos taken of their cat.
Vendors will also be at the show selling cat toys, grooming tools, beds and more.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $1 for children under 12.
Approximately 100 cats are expected to strut their paws at the show, and Parris said she hopes the show is an even bigger success than it was last year.
“The spectators seemed to really enjoy themselves last year, and all the exhibitors were very friendly,” she said. “We’re hoping for a great turnout.”
