Trinity continued its second half magic as the Saints’ senior quarterback William McGehee passed for two scores as the hosts overcame a sluggish start to defeat upset-minded River Oaks 19-0.

Coming into the key Class A game, Trinity coach David King knew a second loss would all but put his team out of district contention.

One also had to wonder if the hosts would also come out a little flat considering their exhilarating win last week at CHA.

For the visitors from Monroe, they hoped to contain Trinity’s speed and passing savvy.

From the opening kick both teams came out flatter than a back road in Kansas, as penalties and turnovers dominated the early action.

Midway in the first frame the Saints’ blocked their second punt of the game which set the ball on the River Oaks 27.

But the hosts failed to punch it in from the goal line stopping the drive.

The teams continued their punters duel as Trinity’s Bobby Craig kept the Mustangs far from paydirt all night long.

A River Oaks fumble late in the second quarter was recovered by Kellen Jex which led to the first score.

The Saints’ Hunter Dale would be on the receiving end of a McGehee toss to lead his team in the locker room only up 6-0.

However, fresh after last week’s miracle, the Saints play picked up in the next 24 minutes.

Thanks to a personal foul penalty, the Mustangs once again were deep in their own end.

Chad Ridley would scoop up a River Oaks fumble putting the Saints 10 yards from extending their advantage.

Quickly with 9:45 remaining, Kellen Jex would pull in a 10 yards scoring strike staking the lead to 12-0.

River Oaks’ offense, impotent most of the night, would pick up their initial first down midway through the third quarter.

Much of the attack was lead by the running of Brent Johnson and Patrick Busby.

However, there was not much more to cheer for the faithful from Monroe since the Trinity defense served as rather rude hosts.

The winners would end the scoring with a decisive 50 yard drive capped off by a Scott Maggio halfback pass to teammate Cole Brown.
