Trinity falls to Woodland Hills

The good news for Trinity Episcopal is that the game was not an MPSA Division 6A contest.
The bad news is that the Saints’ 27-9 loss to Woodland Hills Baptist Academy was a Class A game, which could work against Trinity in the wild card race.
The even worse news is that receiver/linebacker Kellen Jex injured his knee in the contest.
&uot;I went from three linebackers at the start of the season to none right now,&uot; said Trinity head coach David King.
Trinity lost William Foley in the CHA Jamboree with a torn ACL and then Scott Maggio had to sit out Friday’s game with an injured knee.
Trinity actually led Woodland Hills at halftime before the home team rallied with 21 unanswered points in the second half.
Woodland Hills scored first as Justin Smith went in from four yards out. Nick Fowler added the kick for a 7-0 WHBA lead with 11 seconds to play in the first quarter.
Trinity got on the board midway through the second quarter as Chad Ridley returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown. The conversion failed.
Trinity took its only lead with 3:27 remaining in the first half as Bobby Craig connected on a 24-yard field goal.
The Saints led 9-7 at intermission.
Woodland Hills took the lead for good in the third quarter as Wesley Edwards scored on a 24-yard run. Maurice Reed ran in the conversion for a 15-9 advantage.
Edwards then did more damage to the Saints with a 46-yard run with 23 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
The conversion failed, leaving Trinity with a 21-9 margin.
Reed scored on a 2-yard run in the final quarter to complete the scoring.
The conversion failed.
Trinity managed only 62 yards on the ground, while Woodland Hills totaled 200.
Trinity quarterback William McGehee completed 15 of 39 passes for 193 yards with two interceptions.
McGehee, who has been playing with a pulled quadricep muscle, also led the Saints in rushing with 42 yards.
Woodland Hills only attempted three passes, completing one for seven yards.
Trinity fumbled the ball three times, losing two of those to the home squad.
The Saints also had nine penalities for 72 yards, while Woodland Hills was penalized four times for 30 yards.
Trinity defeated Woodland Hills 38-18 last year, but WHBA picked up four Madison Central High players this year to improve its squad.
Trinity returns to district action next Friday as the Saints host Huntington in a crucial 6-A contest.
Huntington fell to Wilkinson County Christian Academy 28-6 Friday in a non-district game.
The Saints (2-2) are 1-1 in the district, losing to Tensas 8-7 in their opener. Trinity defeated River Oaks earlier.
