When there’s some strange bug splattin’ on your car, who are you going to call? Russell Johnson hopes it’s him.
And, during the month of Sept, Johnson says he will see more cars than most people can stand but will be rewarded for his work. &uot;I never get tired of seeing cars come in,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;As long as I’m getting paid, I’m happy.&uot;
The reason for all the hard work in September can be answered in two words: love bugs. &uot;The love bugs are real bad this year,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;People are stopping by constantly wanting to have the bugs washed off their cars. We don’t mind we are happy to help.&uot;
The 30-year-old Johnson, a Natchez native, has managed One Way for five months. He played high school basketball at North Natchez before playing ball at University of Southern Mississippi in the late 1980s.
Johnson played for the Golden Eagles during their basketball heydays.
Johnson’s teammate was Clarence Weatherspoon of the NBA’s Miami Heat.
On a busy day, Johnson averages washing 40-50 cars a day. The wash
includes hand wash, clean the inside of the car and hand dry with a towel. It usually takes about 20 minutes for Johnson and associates to wash the car.
&uot;I tell you one thing. People think this is an easy job but it isn’t. It is hard work,&uot; he said.
About the only time work is slow is when the weather is rainy. &uot;It is sort of like the Weather Channel,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;If it looks like it is going to rain, they will stay at home. If that sun is shining, I don’t have a slow day.&uot;
