Cathedral claimed its third win of the season Friday night over Dexter and a large part of the win came from an unlikely star.

Zach Robinson, a senior who has never played high school football before this season, gained a game-high 132 yards, and scored three touchdowns and three two-point conversions in the Wave’s 30-14 win in Dexter.

The Green Wave’s strong suit was the running game.

In addition to Robinson’s impressive stats, Cathedral freshman Jamel Jackson made his presence known in the backfield, gaining 120 yards and scoring one touchdown.

The Green Wave jumped out to an early 6-0 advantage, when Robinson took the ball in from nine yards out with 8:08 left in the first quarter. The extra point failed.

Dexter (0-4) answered with 46 seconds left in the first quarter, when Steve Dillon fired a 73-yard pass to Tory Crumedy for the score. Derrick McGowan rifled a pass to Ken Haynes for the two-point conversion, and that let the Bulldogs take the 8-6 lead.

The two-point conversion would be all the Green Wave defense would allow, and the Cathedral offense took over from there.

With 11:07 left in the first half, Jackson scored on an 11-yard run, and Robinson ran in the two-point conversion, to make the score 14-8.

Robinson scored for the Wave with 7:11 left in the second quarter on a 14-yard scramble. He added the conversion run, which made it 22-8. Cathedral would add one more score, as Robinson ran in his third and final score with 11:54 left in the fourth quarter from one-yard out. Again he added the two-point conversion, to make the score 30-8.

After Dexter blocked a Cathedral punt, the Bulldogs capitalized by scoring on a 10-yard pass from Dillon to Crumedy with nine seconds left in the game. Also for the Green Wave, Key Smith added 37 yards on 10 carries.

Defensively for Cathedral, the Wave were led by Jim Sandel, who had seven tackles and one interception.

Also collecting interceptions for the Green Wave were Willie Clark, Scott McLemore, and Lanoxne Scott. Luke Janette had three sacks.

Cathedral will play at home Friday against St. Aloyisius at 7:30 p.m.
