Eldon H. Johnson

FERRIDAY, La. – Services for Eldon H. Johnson, 78, of Clayton, who died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, in Shreveport, will be at 11 a.m. today at Comer Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in the Union Springs Cemetery under the direction of comer Funeral Home.

Visitation is today from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Johnson was born April 22, 1921, in Shongaloo, the son of Lee and Maybel Johnson.

He was a long time resident of Clayton and was a former owner of Johnson’s Exxon Station in Clayton. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars and of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Polly Johnson of Clayton; three sons, Billy Johnson of Dallas, Jeffrey Johnson and Gary Johnson, both of Clayton; two daughters, Patsy Seaton of Houston, and Stacie Barnett of Clayton; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Sammy Butler, Phillip Atkins, Roger Bradford, Ralph Martin Jr., Elton Dawson and Robert Watson.

Honorary pallbearers are Mickey Richards and Carol Hall.

Frances Cone Dale

March 4, 1918 – Sept. 24, 1999

VIDALIA, La. – Services for Frances Cone Dale, 81, of Vidalia, who died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at her residence, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father John Paul Kunnumpuram officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Dale was born March 4, 1918, in Montrose, Ark., to Ernest Brevard Cone and Molly B. Cone.

She graduated from Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Ark., with a degree in education. She majored in English with a minor in piano. She taught elementary school in Ferriday from 1940 through 1945, and she also taught piano for a number of years.

She was a homemaker and active in her community despite being stricken with polio in 1952. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar Society and choir. She was a past chairman of the Concordia Parish Cancer Society and chairman of the Concordia Parish Heart Association.

She volunteered more than 3,000 hours as a Pink Lady at Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Vidalia Garden Club and Pilgrimage Garden Club and was a member of the Ladies’ Bridge Club at the Panola Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Carol Dale Baldwin; one brother, William B. Cone; and one sister, Ernestine Cone Ham.

Survivors include her husband, John Dale III; one son, John Dale IV; one daughter and her husband, Marcia Ellis Dale and Fred B. Baldwin of New Orleans; 10 grandchildren, Lara Dale Griffiths and her husband Roy of Swindon, England, Peter John Dale, John Hunter Dale, Emily Claire Dale, a student at Southern Methodist University, Bryan E. Lusk, a student at Wake Forest University, Stephanie Frances Lusk, a student at Appalachian State University, Jeffrey Lusk of Shreveport, La., Lesley Baldwin Adams and her husband Pierre of New Orleans, Katherine Folwell Baldwin of New Orleans and Elizabeth Brenchley Baldwin of Shreveport; two great-grandchildren, Kris John Griffiths and Lesley Ann Griffiths, both of Swindon, England; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Peter John Dale, Bryan Lusk, John Hunter Dale, Jeffery Dale Lusk, Pierre Adams, Richard Andrew Campbell Jr., Wilton R. Dale Jr., and Michael Reddick Reeves.

Honorary pallbearers will be Percy Rountree, Doc Taunton, Wilton R. Dale Sr., Logan Sewell, Billy Clyde Falkenheiner, Sidney Murray, Dr. George Moss, Wedon Smith, Bobby Lowe, John B. Fudickar Sr., Travis Gore, Dr. Iley Dillon and Dr. John White.

Memorial may be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia or to the charity of the giver’s choice.

Montez Poole Cassels

March 25, 1929 – Sept. 25, 1999

GLOSTER – Services for Montez Poole Cassels, 70, of Gloster, who died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Field Memorial Hospital in Centreville, will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Brother Bernard Waites and the Revs. Sammy Smith and Charles Nash officiating.

Burial will be in Talbert Cemetery in Gloster under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cassels was born on March 25, 1929, in Amite County to Joseph Hillery and Willie Jo Berryhill Poole.

She was a Methodist faith and a retired teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph Poole and Dean Poole; and one sister, Ernestine Sorrels.

Survivors include her husband, David J. Cassels; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy C. and Jamie Froman of Huntsville, Ala., and Amy C. and Buddy Weaver of Gloster; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three brothers, Phillip Poole of Natchez and Fleming Poole and Jackie Poole, both of Gloster; and one sister, Della Mae Robertson of Meadville.

Nathan McGee

Jan. 25, 1926 – Sept. 23, 1999

Graveside services for Nathan McGee, 73, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Natchez City Cemetery with Father Sam Tomlinson officiating.

Burial followed under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. McGee was born January 25,1926, the son of Nathan and Irene McGee.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served in the United States Army.

Survivors include several friends, Margaret Harveston and family, Julius and Mary Steele and Dr. and Mrs. Sam Tumminello, all of Natchez.

Pallbearers were members of the Class of 1943.

Carlos Turner

Sept. 10, 1958 – Sept. 19, 1999

Services for Carlos Turner, 41, who died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. John Tyne officiating.

Burial will be in Winston Cemetery in Stanton under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Mr. Turner was born on Sept. 10, 1958, in Chicago to Lula Mae Turner Ivory and Lawrence Butler Jr.

He attended Holy Family School and Sadie V. Thompson School. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a construction worker.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Sanchez Turner.

Survivors include his parents; his fiancee, Easter Smoot of Toledo, Ohio; two sons, Tavaris Turner and Anthony Chatman, both of Natchez; one daughter, Kameshala Turner of Natchez; his grandmother, Geneva Turner of Natchez; his stepgrandfather, Walter Levi of Natchez; one brother, Robert Monroe Ivory of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; three sisters, Virginia McDaniel of Natchez and Mary-Ellen Butler and Hilaree Butler, both of Chicago; four aunts, Zula Mae Lee and Lizzie Mason, both of Chicago, Clara Mae Watts and Roosevelt of Prentiss and Regina Davis of North Chicago; and a number of relatives and friends.

William H. Partridge

Dec. 19, 1930 – Sept. 25, 1999

Services for William H. &uot;Bill&uot; Partridge, 68, of Vidalia, who died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at his residence, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Laird Funeral Home with Father Paul Kunnumpurum officiating.

Burial will be in Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Partridge was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Natchez to Willie Tennett and Allyne Coley Partridge.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co., after 35 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Burkley Partridge; and three brothers, Alton Partridge, Pat Partridge and Willard Partridge.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Griffing Partridge of Vidalia; two sons and their wives, Andrew T. and Deanie Partridge of Woodville and Edwin Joseph Partridge of Vidalia; one daughter and son-in-law, Toni Partridge and Terry Hogue of Monroe, La.; one grandson, G.W. Partridge; two granddaughters, Maggie Hogue and Heather Partridge; two brothers, Charles Allen Partridge of Vidalia and Ward Ray Partridge; and one sister, Willie Mae Guillory of Vidalia.

Pallbearers will be G.W. Partridge, Duffy Guillory Jr., Craig Guillory, Scooter Tullos, Kevin Partridge and Daryl Moon.

WAYNE COUNTY – Services for Ella West Harrison, 96, of Natchez, who died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at her residence, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny West officiating.

Burial will be in Boyles Chapel Cemetery in Wayne County under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Harrison was born Sept. 20, 1903, in Wayne County to Daniel and Margie Ponder West.

She was a member of Morgantown Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Lee Harrison; and three sons, Charles Harrison, J.C. Harrison and David Harrison.

Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Margie and Bob Gavin of Natchez; one grandson and his wife, Don and Carol Johnson of San Diego; three granddaughters, Candy Gavin and Gayle Dowdy, both of Natchez, and Sandy and her husband Mike Coleman of San Diego; five great-grandchildren, Landon Dowdy, Corey Dowdy, Andrew Gore, Amanda Gore and Robbie Gore; two sisters, Lois Jones and Jessie Lee Hollingsworth, both of Sumrall; one sister-in-law, Willie West of Laurel; and a number of nieces and nephews.
