VIDALIA, La. -&160;After going three plays and out on its first two possessions, Vidalia High junior quarterback Jarrett Hoffpauir knew the Vikings needed to try something different.

&uot;Their defense was keying on Dariel (Mays), so we had to get something going through the air,&uot; Hoffpauir said.

A 12-yard pass to Chris Kennedy to the Jonesboro-Hodge 33-yard line was the key play in Vidalia’s first scoring drive, which ended with Dariel Mays going in from four yards out.

Hoffpauir and Mays then teamed up on a 64-yard screen pass for a touchdown just before half which enabled the Vikings to go into the dressing room with a 14-6 lead.

&uot;We try to do different things to get it into Dariel’s hands,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;Good things happen when you do.&uot;

Hoffpauir, who rushed for 35 yards on three carries, completed 6 of 8 passes for 134 yards.

&uot;Our offensive line did a great job holding off their pass rush,&uot; Hoffpauir said.

&uot;I was worried at first because it looked like we didn’t want to play. But we had some people step up and get everybody pumped up.&uot;

Hoffpauir looks to pass the ball even more in the future.

&uot;Coach (Dee Fairlcoth) knows if we want to keep winning we have to be able to throw the ball,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;Each week our passing game seems to be getting better and better. I’m more confident throwing the ball and I like to see us opening it up more.&uot;
