Mother Nature made for sloppy play at D’Evereux Stadium Friday night as the Cathedral Green Wave sloshed past St. Andrews 22-0 in a Division 6-2A contest.

Cathedral improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the division.

&uot;We knew field position would be important with the conditions the way they were,&uot; Cathedral coach Ken Beesley said of the steady rain. &uot;We tried to keep them backed up in their own territory because we figured the wet conditions would make for mistakes. If they did, we wanted to take advantage of them.&uot;

In the second quarter the Saints would put together a nice drive to move the ball in Green Wave territory to the 42-yard line. With third down and 8 to go, the wave held the Saints on a crucial play hoping for good field position only to have themselves pinned on the 3-yard line on a beautiful punt by the Saints.

The Wave would end up with poor field position with the ball at their own 4-yard line.

But on the next play Jamel Jackson would rip off a 96-yard TD run.

The 2-point conversion by Zach Robinson was good to put the score at 8-0.

&uot;I didn’t think&160;I was going to play because I had flu-like symptoms,&uot; Jackson said. &uot;But I’m happy with the win and the effort of our team.&uot;

After three downs the Saints were forced to punt,a costly error by the Saints punter would give the ball back to the Wave on the 13-yard line. The Wave would quickly take advantage by a pass from Stephen Edwards to Ben Eidt for a 6-yard score.The half would end with the score 14-0.

The Wave defensive unit would keep the Saints at bay for the entire second half. But the Wave offense had another score in mind. With 5 minutes to go, Jackson again went in the end zone from 29-yards out to make the score 22-0 to put the game out of reach. The Wave are open next week, but return to action October 28 at Wesson.
