NATCHEZ — An Alcorn State University student charged with murder was released from the Claiborne County jail on $35,000 bond Friday.
Eboni Bena White, 21, of Port Gibson, allegedly shot fellow student Danielle Nicole Newsom, 22, of Natchez, Thursday morning at Stallings Trailer Park on Mississippi 552 in Lorman.
Claiborne County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Franky Yarborough said the shooting may have been the result of a fight the two women had earlier this week, when Newsom accused White of nearly running over her son as he got off the school bus.
Authorities believe Newsom confronted White Thursday, and was shot during the altercation. Newsom was shot five times with a .22 pistol. Two of the bullets struck Newsom in the chest and head.
Newsom’s body was transferred to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson Thursday. Preliminary autopsy results are pending.
