This Sunday, Gerald Thibodeaux will auction his 406-acre Buckhurst Plantation to the highest bidder.

William Bone, chief executive officer for the National Auction Group Inc. of Gadsden, Ala., said he is a little concerned about the lack of interest so far in the property.

&uot;I’m a little worried,&uot; he said. &uot;It’s not quite the interest we were looking for.&uot;

National Auction Group began registering bidders on Thursday, Bone said.

&uot;We opened the auction to bidders last Thursday and much of our interest has come from the Natchez area,&uot; Bone said, despite advertising the auction in Mississippi, Louisiana, and in Mobile, Ala.

Bone said he will be happy if five or six good bidders appear for Sunday’s auction.

Thibodeaux lives in Lafayette, La., and spends most of his time there. He first bought Buckhurst Plantation in late 1994. He decided to sell the property because he gets to spend very little time there, Bone said.

Through the auction, Thibodeaux will gamble that he will get his best value for the property in the shortest amount of time.

&uot;He’s just busy and doesn’t use it that much anymore. The whole time he’s there he just works and manicures it,&uot; Bone said. &uot;He just enjoyed getting it perfect.&uot;

Approximately 350 of the 400 plus acres of Buckhurst Plantation consists of hardwood forests – including cherry, Spanish oak, poplar, ash, pine and pecan groves.

Located at 172 Hutchins Landing Road, the estate includes several stocked fishing ponds and hunting grounds for deer, turkey and duck.

Bidders on the property are required to submit certified funds in the amount of $50,000 to bid. Closing on the property will be 30 days from auction.

Bone said he recommends potential buyers go and look at the property before deciding to make an offer.

&uot;It has acres and acres of food plots and deer stands,&uot; Bone said. &uot;The ponds are stocked with big Florida bass and the woods are full of game. It would be a paradise for an outdoorsman.&uot;
