Smith earns player of week honors

Adams County Christian School quarterback Ty Smith was in a position a lot of sophomores may not have been thrilled about.
Smith was starting his fourth game last Friday against Jackson Prep.
&uot;I thought we could play with them and win, although I know a lot of people doubted us,&uot; Smith said.
AC surprisingly led Prep 12-9 at halftime before falling 46-12 to the state’s top private school team.
Smith completed 26 of 44 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns against the Patriots to earn The Natchez Democrat Player of the Week honor.
&uot;We knew their defense was pretty strong against the run, so we would have to pass it,&uot; he said. &uot;I knew after the first five plays on the first drive when we moved the ball that it was going to be a fun night.&uot;
Smith has passed for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns and has thrown five interceptions.
David Ellis of AC caught six of Smith’s passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. Russ Marks also had six catches, for 98 yards. Hayden Wadsworth had seven receptions for 43 yards, while Lee Watts caught four passes for 78 yards.
Jason Rollins paced the Rebel defense with 19 tackles.
Cordell William of Natchez High had 10 tackles, two for a loss, in Natchez’s 33-7 loss to Wayne County. Don Jackson also had 10 tackles.
In Vidalia, Dariel Mays rushed for 210 yards on 19 carries in the Vikings’ 38-8 win over McCall. Mays also had three catches for 24 yards.
Jarrett Hoffpauir completed 9 of 19 passes for 127 yards.
Leren Curry and Justin Seals had 10 tackles each for the Vikings.
Pine Hills’ Shane Lofton rushed for 158 yards on 19 carries in the Wildcats’ 34-29 win over Trinity. Chris Guidry had 137 yards on 25 carries.
Trinity’s Cole Brown caught six passes for 152 yards.
Ferriday’s Corey Gordon had 107 yards on 23 carries in the Trojans’ 20-13 overtime loss to Farmerville. Lawrence Washington had eight catches for 102 yards and one touchdown.
Matthew Burrell led CHA’s rushing attack with 134 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown in the Wildcats’.
Jordan Hammond had an outstanding defensive effort for CHA with seven tackles and four interceptions.
Javari Hughes ran two interceptions as Jefferson County won its homecoming game over North Pike 32-6 in a Division 6-3A game Friday night.
In WCCA’s 7-6 win over Silliman, Clint Flowers had 13 tackles, two sacks and three fumble recoveries. Brandon Farrar had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. Rusty Kleinpeter had 10 tackles.
Centreville’s Matthew Tolbert had 16 carries for 170 yards and the three touchdowns for the Tigers 29-7 win over Amite School Center.
