This Saturday will mark an great day for the Lynwood Community in Adams County.

Not only is it Make A Difference Day, Lynwood will hold a march and dedication service in honor of its new educational park.

The fact that these two events fell on the same day is not a coincidence.

&uot;We are trying to make (other) groups think about their neighborhoods,&uot; said Lynwood Resident Arella Bacon. &uot;We want to compare and see how much our neighborhood has changed in a year.&uot;

The park, which spans two acres, is comprised of two different lots on either side of the southern end Mazique Lane.

One acre belongs to Bacon, who is donating the land to Lynwood Ruritan Club, for the park.

The other acre belongs to Mrs. Nathaniel Bennett and she agreed to have the land turned into the park, Bacon said

In the past few months, residents have been working to clean up both lots.

The program honoring their work begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with a march down Mazique Lane to the park’s location at the Elbow Lane intersection.

Participants include the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, the Natchez Police Department, the Natchez Fire Department and the local ambulance service, Bacon said.

Two women selected as Miss Lynwood and Mrs. Lynwood will also be there, she added.

The dedication service is around 10 a.m. with a Lynwood Changes For the New Millennium theme.

Several people will speak including, W.W. Johnson of Ruritan National and Kari Robinson of Jackson, with Keep Mississippi Beautiful.

The organizers are also having a competition to see whether more men or women come to the event.
