A $2.5 million house under construction at 219 Quitman Road in Adams County burned to the ground early Friday morning, according to local officials.

The call came in to the Natchez Fire Department at 6:31 a.m., said Commander Robert Eidt of Natchez Fire Department.

Workers arriving at the construction site saw the fire and called the Natchez Fire Department, said Maj. John Manley of the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department will work in coordination with Natchez Fire Marshal Johnny Franklin in determining the cause of the fire.

&uot;We don’t see anything suspicious at this point,&uot; Manley said. &uot;We’re just investigating as a precaution.&uot;

&uot;The house was about 95 percent complete when it burned,&uot; said Bill McDaniel, investigator for the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. &uot;We’ve looked it over, but will have to wait ’til it cools down to do a more thorough investigation – probably Sunday or Monday.&uot;

McDaniel said there are &uot;hot spots&uot; throughout the fire site that preclude immediate detailed searches.

Big River Farms Inc. of Anna’s Bottom Road was building the house for Gerald A. Boette, an out-of-state resident who could not be reached for comment Friday..
