Haven’t seen the Adventures of Ed Fred or checked out one of their tapes? Go check them out at the Southern Outdoorsman Expo today. These two fun-loving guys seem to be always on stage performing, joking and clowning with outdoor lovers of all ages.

&uot;We just like being funny without being vulgar,&uot; Fred said. &uot;You see enough of that on T.V. We don’t make tapes that children can’t watch, because they are what our future is all about.&uot;

The Adventures of Ed (Gilmer) and Fred (Lovett) started in a bow shop where stories grew so much that someone suggested the making of a video. With five comedy videos now on the market, the Mississippi pair are the second largest hunting and outdoor comedy video duo on the market.

&uot;And we’ll answer every letter we get,&uot; Fred said.

Their tapes differ from Outdoors With T.K. & Mike in that there is no drinking or foul language.

&uot;We do at least one tape a year,&uot; Ed said. &uot;We’ve heard every joke and hunting story there is and we’ll try to put those in perspective and make them funny. But most of the time we forget them and do something else. We just like making people laugh and it comes natural.&uot;

And they are popular. The pair just played in Las Vegas as the headline act. Barbara and Mandrell and Mickey Gilley went on before the country comedians.

They have also been approached about doing a 26-week television show beginning in January about hunting and the fun things that happen when you are in the woods.

Gilmer was born in Union and grew up in Philadelphia and is the president of Gilmer Painting Service, one of the largest painting contractors in central Mississippi.

Fred Lovett was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Meadville at the age of 4.

Lovett is a senior account manager for American Freightways in Jackson.

Both comedians say they are not in direct competition with T.K. & Mike.

&uot;We’re in the same industry, but we cater to a somewhat different clientele,&uot; Ed said. &uot;We also do parties, conventions and stand-up comedy.&uot;

The outdoor expo opens its doors today at 10 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. at the Natchez Convention Center.
