WASHINGTON, D.C. — Natchez resident Joseph Stone performed live on the piano during a Washington, D.C., fashion show at the Smithsonian American Art Museum Saturday.

Stone was a part of the pre-show of the American debut of “A Dress to Change the World,” a co-ed couture collection designed by Jeff Garner of Prophetik to honor the late Princess Grace.

His performance opened the catwalk show.

All proceeds of the event help the museum acquire works from artists featured in the museum’s current exhibition, “40 under 40: Craft Futures,” of which Garner is part.

Garner — who works under the Prophetik label — creates distinctive fashions inspired by the dressmakers of the Civil War era and his southern home of Franklin, Tenn.

Prophetik shows at London Fashion Week, where Garner was named “2010 Eco Men’s Designer of the Year.”

“A Dress to Change the World” will have its world premiere at the Salle Empire – Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo during the 30th anniversary royal tribute, “Grace, A Symbol of Change.”
