A meeting of the minds took place in Natchez last week.

The leaders of Adams County’s four largest school systems and Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff met last week and discussed issues that impacted all local students.

&uot;Public schools and private schools are quite a bit different, but none the less we can get together and bounce ideas off each other,&uot; said Michael Hannan, Headmaster of Trinity Episcopal Day School.

Hannan, Scott Fleming of Cathedral, Rufus Carlock of ACCS and Carl Davis of Natchez-Adams County attended the meeting. Another meeting is already scheduled for November 18.

&uot;We need to work with each other,&uot;&160;Hannan said.

And Davis supports any concept that helps children and brings them together.

&uot;We need to start looking in terms of community togetherness,&uot; he said

One of the major issues the group discussed was underage drinking. In his few months in Natchez, Hannan said he has already seen problem drinking.

Two local students were taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning, he said.

&uot;Apparently it’s very easy to get alcohol in this area,&uot; Hannan said. &uot;I just know (from) conversation there is a lot of teenage drinking.&uot;

Fleming agreed the schools need to talk with each other on all topics including alcohol.

&uot;We need to have an ongoing dialogue so we all know what’s going on,&uot; Fleming said.
