Ferriday advances to second round

Corey Gordon ran for three touchdowns and Aron Thomas threw for two more as the Ferriday Trojans came from behind to defeat the Vinton Lions 36-31 in the first round of the LHSAA Class 2A playoffs.
Gordon had 27 carries for 182 yards while Thomas completed six of nine for 91 yards.
Vinton scored first on a one-yard run by David Broussard in the first quarter. The extra point was good.
Adrian Sezer then caught a 15-yard pass from Broussard in the second quarter for the Lions.
Gordon his first touchdown on a two-yard run in the second quarter. The two-point conversion was good and the Trojans trailed 13-8 at halftime.
The second half was a different story for the Trojans as they outscored the Lions 28-18.
Ferriday scored twice in the third quarter on a 17-yard run by Gordon and a 24-yard reception by Cedric Jefferson from Thomas.
Vinton scored in the third quarter on a five-yard pass from Broussard to Sezer to pull the Lions to within three at 22-19.
In the fourth quarter, both teams traded touchdowns.
Ferriday scored first in the quarter on a 42-yard run by Gordon.
Vinton then scored on a 58-yard pass from Broussard to Sezer.
The Trojans answered with a 25-yard pass from Thomas to Akeem Evans.
The Lions scored on a 50-yard catch by Matthew Theriot, but it was not enough.
Ferriday improved to 7-4 overall and will play Many in the second round of the playoffs. Vinton finished with a 6-4 record.
