The Miss-Lou paid due tribute to its veterans this week with ceremonies in Natchez, Vidalia and Ferriday.

Thanks to those who make the ceremonies possible and thanks to all our veterans for what they’ve done for us.

But Veterans Day wasn’t the only exciting thing about last week. Let’s review some of the other good news that happened in the Miss-Lou last week.

– Natchez played host to the annual state convention of the NAACP. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People returned the favor Saturday night by awarding local residents Phillip West, Mamie Mazique and Alfred Hunter for their years of work for the organization and civil rights.

– Ferriday kicked of a new monthly program that further brings the town back to its musical roots. The Delta Music Museum hosted the Arcade Theater Country Music Showcase, highlighting local talents and giving the rest of an evening of entertainment.

– Alcorn State University’s nursing students brought the swine flu vaccination to the Natchez public schools for free. The vaccinations will continue at area private schools this week. We are lucky to have a partnership with a nursing school that can provide such services.

– Holy Family Catholic School was the place to be Saturday, as the school hosted its annual carnival. The event is a fundraiser, and we hope the final money tally turns out well.

As we begin a new week together, we know it’s going to be a great one.
