VIDALIA — The Vidalia Vikings nearly came back from an early deficit, but a touchdown in the fourth quarter by Bolton allowed the Bears to come away with a 28-14 victory Friday night.
Vidalia trailed Bolton 14-0 after one quarter of play and 21-8 at halftime before scoring a touchdown in the third quarter to make it a 21-14 ball game. But, the Vikings were not able to get any closer.
“I was definitely pleased with the effort. We never gave up. We fought to the bitter end,” Vidalia head coach Gary Paul Parnham Jr. said.
“We had some bad things happen to us at crucial times. We might miss a block here or there. We just need a break here or there. We’re a lot better team than we were a year ago. My kids are tough.”
Vidalia (0-4) hosts Baker next at 7 p.m. Friday.
Block 7, Rayville 6
JONESVILLE — Ken Colbert had 18 carries for 65 yards with a touchdown and kicked what turned out to be the game-winning extra point late in the first quarter as the Block Bears escaped with a one-point win at home over the Rayville Hornets Friday night.
The game seemed destined to go into overtime after Davion Miller scored on a 10-yard run with 1:03 to go in the ball game. The extra point was good, but Rayville was called for a false start, moving the ball five yards back. The next attempt was no good and Block was able to run out the clock.
Colbert scored on a 2-yard run with 2:35 to go in the first quarter and his extra point was good, giving the Bears a 7-0 lead. William Cummings had 13 carries for 50 yards and had 10 tackles on defense.
Block (3-1), ranked No. 10 in the LSWA Class 1A poll, play at Donaldsonville at 7 p.m. next Friday.
