The second day of the Michelob Cup Matches at Beau Pre Country Club ended up in a tie on Monday as Team Mississippi and Team Louisiana each finished with three points in the best ball format.
After two days of competition, the Mississippi team still leads the Louisiana team by two points, seven to five.
The results of day two were almost the same as day one – Team Louisiana winning the first two matches (and the first two points) and Team Mississippi making a furious comeback.
Dean Baham and David Marchand defeated Kevin Walls and Russ Fransted 5 and 4.
Then Fred Schroeder and Cliff Wagner defeated Ernie Blue and Kent Smith 1 up in a match that wasn’t decided until late in the match.
&uot;It was nip and tuck,&uot; Schroeder said. &uot;Me and Cliff brother-in-lawed real well. We couldn’t close them out until the 18th hole.
&uot;Kent played really well down the stretch. We were two up after 11, then they won 12 and 13 to tie us. Then on 16 they both hit their shots into a hazard. We won that hole and then we tied them with pars on 17 and 18 to win.&uot;
Ken Smith and Richard Kelly defeated Bill Mullican and Steve Schmidtt 1 up to turn the momentum to Team Mississippi.
Reed Hughes and Duncan Park Golf Pro Marvin Gray defeated Jake Narro and Tad Kivett 4 and 3 to tie the score at two points for each team.
&uot;I just tried to help Marvin. He had the local knowledge,&uot; Hughes said. &uot;I tried to hit it where Marvin wanted me to hit it. When I messed up, Marvin hit a good shot and when he messed up, I bailed him out with a good shot.&uot;
Team Louisiana then took a one-point lead when Rick Miller and Ed Selser defeated Mark Powell of Beau Pre Golf Pro and Jim Dorman 3 and 1.
In the last match of the day, Leigh Brannan and Anthony Price defeated David Church and Dennis McGrail 2 and 1 to help the Mississippi team finish with a tie.
The Michelob Cup Matches conclude Tuesday with the championship flight.
