In a game of momentum swings, Natchez High had the final one as the Bulldogs defeated Ferriday 56-53 Tuesday at the Ferriday 7th Grade gym. Ferriday’s girls won 58-54.

In the boys contest, Ferriday led Natchez 21-16 after one period of play, but the Bulldogs outscored the Trojans 19-6 in the second quarter for a 35-27 halftime advantage.

&uot;They (Ferriday) came out fired up, but we were able to get back in it,&uot; said Natchez coach Mike Martin.

Ferriday turned to its defense in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 11-4 to pull within 39-38.

But the Bulldogs won the final quarter 17-15 to hold on for the win and improve to 15-7.

Jamal Bouldin and David Haywood led Natchez with 13 points each.

Ferriday was led by Jason Scott with 27 points. Derrick Williams added 13.

&uot;It was a back and forth game,&uot; said Ferriday coach James Davis. &uot;We had some open looks, but we just couldn’t knock them down. Overall I was pleased. We didn’t give up and kept hustling.&uot;

In the girls contest, Ferriday and Natchez were tied 10-10 after one period of play and the Lady Trojans led 22-20 at halftime.

Ferriday increased its lead to 35-29 after three periods, but the Lady Bulldogs clawed back and took the lead in the final quarter.

A steal by Ferriday’s Lathasha Cain led to a Monique Jones basket which put the Lady Trojans up 56-54 with 58 seconds remaining.

Jones added another basket and Ferriday ran out the clock.

Jones led Ferriday with 25 points, while Tarsheka Taylor added 14.

Natchez was led by Christen West with 22 points, while Angel Taylor added 12.

&uot;It was a good defensive game,&uot; said Ferriday coach Lisa Abron. &uot;I think the turning point was when Lathasa got the steal.&uot;

n Adams County Christian School’s girls picked up a big win over at Madison-Ridgeland Academy, defeating the Lady Patriots 37-36 as Amanda Walker hit two free throws with two seconds remaining.

&uot;We played good defense,&uot; said ACCS&160;coach Bruce Pickle. &uot;We also shot well from the free throw line. We stayed in there, battled and found a way to win. It was a big win for us.&uot;

The Lady Rebels, 16-8, were led by Laurie Davis with 16 points. Walker added 15.

MRA&160;was led by Ashley Wade with 14.

AC hosts Jackson Academy Thursday.

n Monterey swept two games from Cathedral as the girls defeated the Lady Wave 58-43 behind the 25 points of Jan Paul. Betsi McGraw led Cathedral with 13.

Monterey’s boys defeated the Green Wave 60-46.

Sandon Kemp and Larry Jones scored 22 and 17 points, respectively for Monterey.

Cathedral was led by Zac Robinson with nine.
