Wilkinson Co. solid in win; Jefferson Co. falls

BAKER, La. — Wilkinson County starting quarterback Devin Voorhies had two touchdown runs, and backup quarterback/kicker Dwayne Anthony provided the Wildcats with an all-around solid performance as they shut out the Baker (La.) Buffaloes Friday night, 42-0.

Voorhies had eight carries for 53 yards and touchdown runs of 4 yards late in the first quarter and 7 yards in the fourth quarter. He also went 4-of-7 passing with one interception for 61 yards. Anthony completed nine of 16 passes for 94 yards, had a 7-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, made a 22-yard field goal right before halftime and made three extra points.

Nicholas Hull had the big play of the game for Wilkinson County (4-0) with a 52-yard touchdown run midway through the opening quarter. He finished with 69 yards on just four carries. The Wildcats travel to Ferriday for its homecoming game at 7 p.m. Friday.

South Delta 20, Jefferson County 14

FAYETTE — Terry Montgomery scored two touchdowns in a span of just over three and a half minutes in the fourth quarter as South Delta rallied to defeat Jefferson County Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Cody Gilchrist put Jefferson County on the board with a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:36 to go in the second quarter for a 6-0 lead. The Tigers made it 14-0 when Rashaad Bradley hooked up with Devion Bradley on a 26-yard touchdown run and Rashaad Bradley threw to Kendrick Smith for the two-point conversion with 2:27 remaining until halftime.

South Delta got back in the game on Hakeem Johnson’s 70-yard touchdown run with one second left in the third quarter. Montgomery then scored on a 75-yard run, but for the second straight time the two-point conversion pass was no good, leaving the Bulldogs trailing 14-12. Montgomery put them ahead for good with his 12-yard touchdown run and Johnson threw to Terrale Washington for the 2-point conversion with just 3:04 left.

Jefferson County (1-4) plays host to South Pike next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
