Franklin County quarterback Marcus Briggs signed with Alcorn State Thursday as Braves’ head coach Johnny Thomas brought in six more players to go with the six he signed Wednesday.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Briggs completed 18 of 47 passes for 322 yards. He also carried the ball 95 times for 359 yards.

Briggs, who runs a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and also played safety at Franklin County, is being looked at as a wide receiver and quarterback.

Others joining Alcorn Thursday were Houston, Texas offensive lineman Jason Lewis (6-3, 285); East Mississippi Community College lineman Donald Kelly (6-4, 280); Dallas lineman Zephaniah Smalley (6-2 270); Vicksburg running back Tim Hall (6-0, 180), Shreveport, La., lineman Thomas Butler (6-3 280) and Memphis, Tenn., defensive tackle Demetrius Young (6-2, 285).

&uot;We got some big linemen that are quality linemen,&uot;&160;Thomas said. &uot;They will all be eligible to play.&uot;

Thomas said he is still waiting on a few skilled players who committed earlier, but have not made up their minds.

&uot;We’re still trying to get the speed guys who are holding off on their final decisions,&uot; Thomas said.

Among the players who faxed in their National Letters-of-Intent Wednesday were Port Gibson linebacker Quaterial Hughes (6-1, 220); Heidelberg defensive tackle Johnny Washington (6-4, 320); Provine wide receiver Chris Gales (6-0, 165); Hattiesburg quarterback Mario McKeller (6-1, 220); Chicago Hubbard lineman Henry Herod (6-4, 280) and DeSota, Texas linebacker Tillman Smith (6-1, 220).
