NATCHEZ — Memorial graveside services for Charles Douglas Sr., 79, of Natchez, who passed away from his earthly home into his heavenly home Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery.
Burial will follow under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. Douglas was born July 2, 1932, in Natchez, the son of Jerry Douglas and Mary Grant Dorsey. He was a retired FC Sgt. of the U.S. Army with 23 years, having served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was an honorary veteran of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Other awards included the GCM, DL, ARCOM, CIB, BSM, AFEM, NDSM, USM, RVNCM and the Army Commendation Medal on Aug. 25, 1975.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dolores Douglas; two sons, Charles Douglas Jr. and wife, Lotus M., of Austin, Texas and Derek D. Douglas and wife, Felecia M., of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Ashley N. Douglas and Charles Douglas III; 10 special nieces, Latifah Abdullah, Lestrice Shaw, Erma Williams, Helen N. White, Elaine D. Thomas and husband, Arthur, Quartreatta S. Jones and husband, Willie B., Mildred Smith, Mary J. Smith, Esperanda Hunt and Ella L. Smith; six nephews, Autry Clayton, Jerry Dean, Charles Clayton Jr., Elijah Jones, Bishop Cleveland C. Smith III and David Scott; a very very special nephew, Michael J. Jones Sr. and wife, Regina; and a number of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
