NATCHEZ — Services for Albert Briley Duck Jr., 80, who died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Promise Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Natchez with Dr. Doug Broome officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.
Mr. Duck was born Sept. 4, 1932, in Jonesville, the son of Albert and Mamie Haygood Duck. His family later relocated to Roxie.
During his high school years at Roxie High School, Albert was an avid basketball player. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College for one year before joining the U.S. Air Force and serving a four-year tour of duty, which included service in Korea during the Korean conflict.
Upon returning from Korea, Albert married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Farr, on Aug. 18, 1956. After leaving the Air Force six months later, he returned to college at Co-Lin. He went on to the University of Southern Mississippi where he obtained a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in business.
Albert taught high school in Biloxi before going to work for Standard Oil in Pascagoula and later Louisville, Ky. After this tenure with Standard Oil, he went to work for the Woodlands Accounting Division of International Paper Company in Natchez where he finished his career.
Over the years, he also taught economics and other business related courses at USM in Hattiesburg, Biloxi and Natchez campuses and at Co-Lin Natchez.
Albert was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Natchez, for 43 years. He was ordained as a deacon in 1969, served on a number of committees, taught Sunday school and served a number of terms as chairman of the deacons. He was bestowed the honor of deacon emeritus on Oct. 29, 2006. Albert was a strong supporter of missions and tithing, and he believed in trusting the Lord with everything he had.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Vera McEntyre and her husband, Ray; one brother-in-law, Kent Germany; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Farr Sr.; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Farr Jr. and J.B. Bonds; and one sister-in-law, Martha Farr Bonds.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Barbara Farr Duck; one daughter, Alisa Duck House and husband, Frank, of Destrehan, La.; two sisters, Jimmye Faye Campbell and husband, Charles, of Lake St. John and Sammie Germany of Terry; one brother-in-law, Douglas Farr and wife, Emma; and one sister-in-law, Louise Farr, all of Roxie.
The family extends their deep gratitude to Dr. Edward Daly, Dr. Kenneth Stubbs, Deaconess Home Health, Deaconess Hospice Ministries, Malika Lyles, Linda Moore, Reggie Robson, Sheila Evans, Betty Squalls and beloved friend and caregiver, Joyce Marie Owens.
Pallbearers will be Lynwood Easterling, Jerry Geter, Jay Geter, Sam Guin, David New Jr. and Charles Stephens.
Honorary pallbearers will be all active and inactive deacons.
The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Natchez, or to a charity of choice.
