Natchez Regional&160;Medical Center will have at least one new board member for its March 13 meeting while a second board appointment remains in limbo.

Adams County supervisors appointed Natchez investment broker John C. Bergeron and downtown antique dealer Thelma Angelethy to the hospital’s board Tuesday.

But Angelethy has declined the appointment. &uot;I’m going to withdraw my name,&uot; she said Tuesday evening.

Lynwood Easterling nominated Angelethy. &uot;She’s a personal friend of mine and I’ve gotten to know her real well over the years,&uot; he said.

&uot;I feel more comfortable with Renza Grennell on that board,&uot; Angelethy said. &uot;She has years of experience.&uot;

Easterling said he had hoped Renza Grennell would step down from the hospital board. &uot;I see a conflict with her on the hospital board while Darryl is a supervisor,&uot; Easterling said.

Grennell’s son Darryl, a supervisor, abstained from all votes and discussion of the hospital board nominees.

Angelethy, the owner of Bridgettes Antiques & Less, said she might have served on the board under different circumstances.

&uot;If it’s an open position, I have no problem serving, but if it is Renza Grennell’s position, I&160;would prefer that she serve,&uot; she said.

According to county records, Renza Grennell has served on the hospital board of trustees since 1992.

During nominations for the open hospital board positions, none of the supervisors nominated Grennell, teacher at Natchez Middle School.

Grennell said she was not concerned about the vote. &uot;I’m not upset about it,&uot; she said Thursday evening. &uot;If they can find someone better qualified to serve on the board, then I want the absolute best for Natchez Regional so that they can deliver the best healthcare to the people of the Miss-Lou.&uot;

During the supervisors meeting, Supervisor Thomas &uot;Boo&uot; Campbell attempted to nominate Renza Grennell after the vote on nominations had passed. &uot;I&160;had planned to nominate Renza Grennell,&uot; he said. &uot;I must not have been thinking at the time.&uot;

Campbell made a motion to to reconsider the hospital appointments, but it did not pass.

Supervisors will have to make a new appointment at their next meeting scheduled March 6.

Bergeron brings a strong financial background to his role on the hospital board. A partner in the Century Investment Group and an independent securities agent, Bergeron said he has a keen interest in health care.

&uot;Natchez Regional Medical Center is a fine hospital and it needs to be given as much as we local people can give it,&uot; Bergeron said.
