Proposed subdivision worries residents

A Jackson developer is interested in building a manufactured home subdivision in Natchez, mainly for senior citizens and low-income families. But residents in the area of the proposed subdivision have signed a petition against the 42-lot development, said City Planner David Presiozi.
Preziosi said the Natchez Metro Planning Commission will review preliminary subdivision plans from Mississippi Housing LLC at its Thursday meeting. Plans for the manufactured homes will be reviewed by the Natchez Zoning Board in March, he said.
The subdivision would be located behind Bluebird Drive. The petition from residents on Bluebird Drive and Oriole Terrace includes most of the people in the neighborhood, resident George Harden said.
Preziosi said the subdivision will not be a &uot;typical&uot; mobile home park, where people bring their mobile homes to the subdivision. Instead, the developers will put in manufactured homes, most likely on foundations, and build curb and gutter work, sidewalks and sewer service. &uot;I think they’re looking at manufactured homes because of the expediency of getting them on the site,&uot; Preziosi said.
About two-thirds of the 42 lots would be for senior citizen housing, and the rest for low-income single family housing, he said.
Because the area is zoned for single-family dwellings, Preziosi said the zoning board will have to grant approval for the manfuactured homes.
The entire area is 26.5 acres, Preziosi said. Representatives from Mississippi Housing LLC could not be reached for comment.
The planning commission meets at 5 p.m. Thursday at city council chambers on South Pearl Street.
