Natchez High will be hoping to start an uprising at Harrison Central High tonight when the Bulldogs face the Biloxi Indians in the semifinals of the South State 5A Tournament.
The two teams tip off at 6:30 p.m., followed by Meridian versus Harrison Central.
Harrison Central defeated Jim Hill 68-52 , while Biloxi (26-3) upended Wayne County 103-89.
Meridian eliminated Pascagoula 72-61.
Biloxi lost to Provine in the state semifinals last year. The Indians lost to Starkville in the first round of state two years ago.
&uot;We’ve been working hard to get back there,&uot; said Biloxi coach Joe Nelson
Biloxi is led by 6-foot-4 guard/forward Chey Christy, who is averaging 26 points a game.
&uot;He is listed among the top 50 juniors in the nation,&uot; Nelson said.
Senior David Young (6-3), an all-State performer, is averaging 15 points a game.
Ryan Kennedy (6-foot-6) is averaging 12 points and 15 rebounds.
&uot;We have a lot of role players who come off the bench,&uot; Nelson said. &uot;We run a lot and use a transition game up and down the court.&uot;
Natchez is 24-8 on the season.
&uot;They look very talented,&uot; Nelson said. &uot;They look similar to some of the teams we play in this area. They don’t seem to run a lot. They have some pretty good athletes. No. 40 (David Haywood) seems to be their go-to guy. He looks like a big-time player.
They have a good post player (Vasshun Newborne) and their guards are very quick. We definitely think they have a respectable ball club.&uot;
