NATCHEZ — Fall events will kick off this weekend, giving local residents a variety of options to find some fun. Weather forecasts show temperatures in the reaching the mid-80s.

Fat Mama’s Poker Run

The Krewe of Fat Mama’s Tamales is sponsoring the second annual Natchez poker run Saturday to raise funds for Adams County Search and Rescue.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Fat Mama’s Tamales. The cost is $25 for each motorcycle, $15 per rider and $15 for each additional hand.

A lead car will lead the 85-mile ride. Participants will get their first card at Fat Mama’s Tamales before heading to their second stop at Chances Saloon in Jonesville. From there, the poker run goes to The Steel Horse, John’s Place and will finish at the Under-the-Hill Saloon at 2 p.m.

A $300 prize given for the best poker hand. Second place is $200 and third is $100.

Bark in the Park

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society’s 20th Bark in the Park will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians.

Admission is $4 per person and $1 for children 5 and under. There will be contests, raffles, concessions, T-shirts and booths. The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will have a number of dogs available for adoption.

City Challenge for Our Children

The Gaining Ground Sustainability Institute of Mississippi Natchez Chapter is kicking off its “City Challenge for Our Children” and will be giving indoor and outdoor workshops from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Duncan Park.

Gaining Ground members will demonstrate the process of building raised garden beds and how to plant a garden.

Rodeo and Fun Day

The Eddie “Tex” Gaines annual Memorial Rodeo and Fun Day begins with a dance at 9 p.m. Friday at The Grill in the Broadmoor subdivision.

The Saturday rodeo begins at 8 p.m. and the Sunday rodeo begins at 6 p.m., at the Adams County Equestrian Center.

Organ re-dedication

The Rose Hill Baptist Church will re-dedicate its 100-year-old pipe organ at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Organist Dr. Robert Knupp of United Methodist Church in Jackson will perform.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Friday Forum

This week’s speakers are Patricia Marks and Tammy Cranford of Natchez Regional Medical Center. The topic is controlling flu, pneumonia, staphylococcus and the West Nile virus.

The weekly forum begins at 8 a.m. at the Natchez Coffee Company.

Friday night football

Adams County Christian School hosts Bowling Green, Trinity Episcopal hosts River Oaks, Ferriday High School is hosting Vidalia High School, Wilkinson County Christian Academy is hosting Riverfield and Centreville Academy is hosting Oak Forest, all at 7 p.m.

Wilkinson County High School goes to Baker, La., for a 7 p.m. kick off. Cathedral travels to Stringer and Franklin County High School goes to Amite County. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
