Natchez falls to Harrison Central

Natchez High’s boys basketball team saw its season end Saturday night as the Bulldogs fell to Harrison Central 72-52 in the consolation game of the South State 3A Tournament at Harrison Central.

The Bulldogs lost to Biloxi 71-69 Friday night in the semifinals after beating Gulfport at home Tuesday.

Harrison Central, 28-3, was upset by Meridian Friday, blowing a 20-point lead after the Wildcats hit a 3-point play at the buzzer for the win.

The Red Rebels led Natchez 12-7 after the first period of play and 26-21 at halftime.

Harrison Central outscored Natchez 20-11 in the third quarter and 26-20 in the final period.

&uot;We just ran out of gas,&uot; said Natchez coach Mike Martin. &uot;We lost our composure and they played with a lot of intensity.&uot;

Harrison Central was led by Timmy Bowers with 29 points.

Orland Lewis added nine and Darren Davis seven.

Natchez was led by Jamal Bouldin with 20 points, while David Haywood added 14.

Natchez ends its season at 24-9.

Meridian faced Biloxi in the championship game. Meridian, Biloxi and Harrison Central advance to the state tournament which begins on Monday in Jackson.
