Natchez — As the citizens and City of Natchez prepare for the holiday season, The Natchez Chapter of the Links, Inc., is planning a Holiday Tour of Homes: “A House for Every Period” from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, with a “Taste of Christmas Reception” from 5 to 6 p.m.
Several gracious residents of Natchez have consented to open their homes to help usher in the holiday season.
Adams County Supervisor, educator, civic and community leader, Darryl V. Grennell is welcoming guests into his house at 600 North Martin Luther King St. Constructed in 1884, architecturally this Christina Williams House is a perfect example of a Queen Ann Cottage.
The home was restored by Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Grennell Jr. in 2003.
The Joseph Newman Stone House on 804 Washington St., will be open for the Links’ tour of homes.
David Stanton built the oldest part of this unusual house circa 1850 as a luxurious billiard hall. It is now The Antebellum Music Room Bed and Breakfast with live music.
Owner Joe Stone provides music of Schubert, Brahms, Chopin and other great masters on the 1903 Steinway grand piano in the music parlor.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert White are ushering guests into the Harold House located on the corner of North Commerce and Madison streets, 501 B St. This prairie style bungalow was built in 1924. The small townhouse proudly boasts of gigantic pocket doors dividing the parlor from the dinning room. The remodeling of the kitchen was a “labor of love” for the owners.
After the tour of these three homes, the Links will host a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon (Creseda) Crawford of 28 Country Squire Road.
Creseda Crawford, who is a member of the Natchez Chapter of the Links, will make certain that during the Christmas season their house warms the hearts of their many guests with its glistening lights, balls of holly and the trees decked with rustic pine cones from the surrounding Beau Pré area.
The theme this year continues to be the white tail deer. The deer is a bittersweet treat for the Crawfords, as they adore them from the windows and struggle to protect their flower garden from their nibbles.
A $20 donation will be accepted for the evening of festivities.
For more information please contact a member of the Links tour committee, Mary Lee Toles, Jeanette Wilson or Creseda Crawford.
