In two months something very special is coming to Natchez, an American Veterans Traveling Tribute.

Ahead of the event, Natchez needs to support the folks who are putting it on and prepare to roll out the red carpet for veterans.

The event is the brainchild of the Miss-Lou Patriotic Tribute Committee, a volunteer group of local veterans who simply want to do something nice for the community.

Several memorials, spanning all wars and conflicts in which the United States has been involved, will be on display from Nov. 8 through Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Planning for the event has been under way for months.

This week organizers asked for help from the City of Natchez to try and repair the city’s veterans’ memorial at Memorial Park.

We applaud the committee for bringing up the matter, as it’s one of many city infrastructure maintenance projects that have lapsed in recent years.

We’re also glad city leaders seem intent on trying their best to make repairs to the monument before the veterans event.

But we’re more excited Mayor Butch Brown’s suggestion that the city has plans to develop a routine maintenance plan for Memorial Park. Such is long overdue and should help greatly to keep one of the city’s greatest parks in more presentable condition for visitors and locals alike to enjoy.
