NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School bided its time, and then bided its overtime.

And the results paid off when the Lady Rebels were finally able to get on the board late into the second overtime period on two Jordan Parker goals.

ACCS and Oak Forest Academy were tied 0-0 at the end of regulation, forcing two six-minute overtime periods. With 3:15 left in the second period, Parker scored on a breakaway to put ACCS ahead 1-0. Parker added another goal with approximately one minute to play, putting the Lady Rebels ahead for good 2-0.

“It was a weight off my back,” Parker said on scoring that first goal. “It got a lot easier (after that).”

ACCS was minus senior starters Mollie Simpson, Merritt Murray and Elizabeth Fazzio due to illness. But head coach Jimmy Allgood said he was proud of the way his girls overcame being down several key players.

“A whole bunch of young ladies stepped up,” Allgood said.

One of those was keeper Emily Williams, who fended off nine shots on goal by Oak Forest to secure the shutout.

“I felt like I was in control,” Williams said. “I have an awesome coach (in Allgood) who helps coach me and teaches me what to do.”

Allgood said Williams does a fantastic job as keeper, and her defense was a huge spark for the Lady Rebels.

“We depend on her to pay attention around the net at all times,” Allgood said. “When she punts, it’s still on the fly at the 40-yard line.”

Offense was hard to come by for either team during regulation. ACCS managed just nine shots on goal during regulation before finishing with 13 on the day.

“It makes me frustrated and aggravated (when we’re not scoring),” Parker said.

But Allgood said the team’s defense allowed the Lady Rebels to stay in the game despite a struggling offense.

“With the aggressiveness we played with today, it created opportunities in regulation,” Allgood said. “They continued to stay aggressive, and it paid off.”

ACCS will host Veritas School at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
