Cathedral High finished fourth in the South State Class 1A-2A Powerlifting Meet, qualifying three lifters for the state meet next month.
The top three finishers in each division advanced Saturday in Gulfport.
St. John of Gulfport won the meet with 59 points, followed by Scott Central with 45, East Marion with 23. Cathedral and Sebastapol totaled 19, while Mercy Cross tallied 11.
Brandon Gremillion won the 114-pound class with 650 points, going 215 on his squat, 145 on the bench and 290 on deadlift.
Scott McLemore placed second in the 132-pound class with 690 points, squatting 215, benching 165 and dead lifting 310.
Patrick Biglane was second in the 123-pound division with 695 points. Biglane squatted 235, benched 170 and dead lifted 290.
Michael Byrne missed by one place of advancing to state, finishing fourth in the 220-pound division with 955 points.
&uot;Michael should have been in,&uot; said Cathedral coach Craig Beesley. &uot;The guy who finished third should not have had his third attempt count and an official apologized for that later. I hate to see it with Michael being a senior.&uot;
Key Smith placed sixth in the 181-division with 880 points.
Cathedral is in its second year of powerlifting.
&uot;I thought we did pretty well and I’m pleased,&uot; Beesley said.
The state meet will be held at Forest Hill in Jackson April 14-15.
