Vidalia softball coach Gary Paul Parnham’s idea of an ideal championship game for his Vidalia Softball Tournament Saturday would have Vidalia facing Vidalia 2.
Parnham was forced to put together players from his own team for another team after one school dropped out late in the week.
With a competitive field, Parnham will be happy just to get one team in the finals.
The tournament is divided into two pools, with the top teams from each pool meeting for the championship at the end of the day..
In Pool 1 Vidalia, Franklin County and Rayville battle for the right to reach the championship game..
Making up Pool 2 are Vidalia 2, Jena and Winnsboro.
The tournament gets underway at 9:30 a.m. at Vidalia High’s softball field with the Lady Vikings meeting Franklin County.
&uot;We’ve played two games already and they were both barnburners,&uot; Parnham said.
At 10:45 a.m., Winnsboro meets Jena.
Franklin County meets Rayville at Noon.
Vidalia No. 2 walks up to the plate at 1:15 p.m. against Jena.
At 2:30 p.m., Vidalia meets Rayville.
Vidalia 2 takes on Winnsboro at 3:45 p.m.
At 5 p.m., the No. 3 team from Pool No. 1 meets the No. 3 team from Pool No. 2.
The two No. 2 teams face off at 6:15 p.m., followd by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
&uot;Jena has to be the favorite in Pool 2,&uot; Parnham said. &uot;This should be a good tournament.&uot;
