Four more qualify for city elections

Three more incumbents and one challenger have qualified for Natchez elections.

Mayor Larry L. &uot;Butch&uot; Brown, Ward 5 Alderman David Massey and Ward 4 Alderman Theodore &uot;Bubber&uot; West have turned in qualifying papers at the city clerk’s office. And Art Fesmire, manager of Natchez Mall, also qualified for the Ward 5 race.

Massey said he wants to continue his work with the city. &uot;We’ve done so many good things in the city, I’m looking forward to the next four years,&uot; he said. &uot;I believe Ward 5 is the best-kept ward in the city.&uot;

Fesmire could not be reached for comment.

Brown said he believes the projects the city started under his term have been successful — and he wants to finish what he’s started. &uot;We had what we consider is a strong and successful two terms,&uot; he said. &uot;We want to go ahead and get those other projects that are one the drawing board under way.&uot;

Independent Robert Costa is also running for mayor.

West said he is proud of such city accomplishments as the farmer’s market, community center and renovation of the senior citizens center, and he wants to work to get the school board elected, develop a revolving loan program for small businesses and bring police and fire salaries up to standards. &uot;I have seen Natchez progress more in the past four years than the years before,&uot; he said. &uot;I will continue to represent the citizens of Natchez to the best of my ability.&uot;
