Weekend events offer plenty to keep you busy

Anyone staying inside their houses this weekend can’t blame it on a lack of interesting events. The weekend is filled with fun things.
Things kick off today with a melodic tone as the Natchez Downtown Development Association presents another Brown Bag It noontime program at Memorial Park. This week’s event features folk music performed by Rex Pruitt. The program is free and offers a perfect chance for folks to get away from work, kick off their shoes and have a picnic in the park.
And if Mother Nature decides not to cooperate and rain falls from the sky, the event will continue at The Institute building, which houses the Historic Natchez Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce at 108 S. Commerce St.
And after the relaxing lunch at Memorial Park today, you’ll be rested and ready to participate in one of three different races sponsored by the Natchez Junior Auxiliary on Saturday morning. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., JA members will host a 5K run, 5K walk and one-mile fun run. The races will start and finish at Memorial Park. Benefits from the events will go to the JA, whose members volunteer on numerous projects throughout our community that benefit children.
Weather forecasters say Saturday should bring beautiful weather, which offers the perfect atmosphere to witness Natchez in all its splendor. With only one week of Spring Pilgrimage left, time is running out to join in the fun and see the grandeur that’s behind the doors of the stately mansions that dot our landscape.
