Charlie Norris allowed three runs and five hits and struck out seven in six innings and went 2-for-3 at the plate to help Cathedral to a 13-3 District 6-2A win over Wesson Friday at Chester Willis Field.

&uot;I’ve been in a slump lately hitting the ball,&uot; Norris said. &uot;It was good to get the ball in play.&uot;

Wesson jumped on Norris in the top of the first, scoring twice as Travis Smith singled, Jared Smith tripled to bring in Travis Smith and scored on a John Graham groundout.

Cathedral tied the game in the bottom of the first. Jeremi Hardy walked, went to third on a Ben Eidt double and scored on a Key Smith fielder’s choice. Eidt stole home to score.

The Green Wave took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Charlie Norris reached first on a Wesson error and courtesy runner Conor Gibson went in and scored on a Hardy single.

Cathedral exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third. Stephen Edwards scored on a Casey Rodgers single, Steven Bush on an error by Mark O’Quinn, Rodgers on another error by O’Quinn and Gibson on a passed ball.

Eidt reached first on another Wesson error in the fourth and later scored on a Key Smith double to give the Green Wave an 8-2 lead.

Cathedral scored one run off Jared Smith in the fifth as Bart Lane scored on a sacrifice fly by Eidt.

Wesson tried to get back in the game in the top of the sixth when Jared Smith walked and Graham singled.

O’Quinn then hit into a double play that allowed Jared Smith to scored, but Norris got pinch hitter Chris Peets to strike out.

The game ended on the 10-run rule in the bottom of the sixth as Cathedral scored four runs on four hits and a walk with the game-ending hit being Josh Torrey’s 2-run double.

&uot;I was pleased with the way we hit the ball tonight,&uot; said Cathedral head baseball coach Ken Beesley. &uot;Charlie pitched well. Wesson’s a good club and they hit the ball well in the first inning.&uot;

Rodgers and Edwards each went 2-for-4 and Torrey went 2-for-3 for Cathedral.

Cathedral improved to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in district, but still must win its last two district games, a home contest next Tuesday against St. Andrews and at Loyd Star next Friday to make the playoffs.

In the junior varsity game, Cathedral defeated Wesson 4-3. Scott McLemore was the winning pitcher.
