Franklin County High finished second in Region 3 Class 1A-2A-3A Softball Tournament after defeating Morton 12-0 before falling to Newton 9-5 in the championship game Tuesday.

Mandy McGehee held Morton to three hits.

Christy Day doubled and singled against Morton, while Janet Chapman had two singles. Day homered against Newton.

Franklin County will be on the road next week in a Class 3A South State contest.

In the first round, Franklin County used a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Union 7-6.

McGehee struck out nine and walked seven. Heather Mack led Franklin County with a triple.

In the losers bracket, Morton eliminated Union with a 13-12 win.

Tara Hughes picked up the win for Morton despite walking nine Union batters. Three Morton batters went 2-for-4.

In the championship bracket, Franklin County jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Newton County only to lose 4-3 in nine innings.
