Vikings dominate 3-2A team

VIDALIA, La. – Vidalia High coach Lillian Johnson was named Coach of the Year by District 3-2A coaches, while junior Brendy Ellis was named Player of the Year.

Ellis averaged 16.5 points per game for the Lady Vikings.

Vidalia finished 26-6, 7-1 in district.

The Lady Vikings lost to Many in the first round of the playoffs.

Also named to the team from Vidalia were junior Natalie McGraw, junior Sharonda Anderson and junior Wendy Paul.

Ferriday High was represented by freshman Monique Jones and juniors Torisheka Taylor and LaSonda Pryor.

Named as honorable mentions from Vidalia were junior Tiyree Riley and Brittnay Williams. Ferriday’s Jessica Griggs was also named honorable mention.

Seven players from Vidalia, Ferriday High and Block were named to the boys squad.

Ronald Ellis, Jarvis Vaughn and Dariel Mays were named to the first team from Vidalia.

Ellis, who recently signed a basketball scholarship with Grambling, averaged 18.1 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, blocked 34 shots and had 127 steals.

Ronald is the brother of Brendy Ellis.

Vaughn averaged 19.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game, blocked 48 shots and had 127 steals.

Mays averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game and had 90 steals.

Juniors Jason Scott and Lawrence Washington were named from Ferriday High.

Scott led the Trojans with 14 points a game.

Making the all-district team from Block was Terry Russ.

McCall head coach Mitchell Riggs was named boys Coach of the Year. Donald Perry of McCall was named Most Valuable Player.

McCall lost to West St. John in the Class 2A semifinals.

Jason Fisher, Robert Dunbar and Victor Fisher of Block, Lakendrick Nix and Aron Thomas of Ferriday and Andre Singleton and Terrel Williams of Vidalia were All-District honorable mentions.
