Parklane pitchers Chris Robinson and Jarrod Fortenberry held Adams County Christian School to one hit as the Pioneers defeated the Rebels 9-1 here Tuesday in a pivotal MPSA&160;South AAAA&160;contest.
&uot;That is the best pitching we’ve seen all year other than Central Private, but we knew that coming in,&uot;&160;said ACCS head coach Chad Lipscomb. &uot;We were not very disciplined at the plate. We would watch a fastball go by, and then chase a bad pitch.&uot;
Parklane improved to 21-8 overall and 10-3 in South AAAA. ACCS&160;fell to 16-8 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
&uot;Anytime you have a three-game series your goal is to win that first one, especially on the road,&uot; said Parklane coach Ken Jackson. &uot;You want the momentum.&uot;
AC plays a doubleheader at Parklane Thursday to end the regular season.
AC’s only hit in the first inning as Hayden Wadsworth connected on a home run for the Rebels’ only run of the game.
AC starting pitcher Jason Wimberly retired nine of the first 12 batters he faced, but ran into trouble in the fifth.
Les Dykes led off with a double, Joey Lindley walked and Dooley Simmons delivered a two-run double.
Adam Steele walked, Kyle Ginn sacrificed bunted and John McKenzie and Fortenberry walked to score a run. Jeremy Alford then walked and Christopher Rayborn came in for relief.
Robinson scored a run on a fielder’s choice and Lindley singled to complete a 7-run inning.
ACCS&160;loaded the bases in the fifth as Lee Watts, Bruce Wiley and Trey Mardis walked and Ryan Porter was hit by a pitch, but a pick off of a base runner kept the Rebels scoreless in the inning.
It was one of two pick-offs in the game for the Pioneers.
&uot;We were fortunate to get those,&uot; Jackson said.
The Pioneers added two runs in the seventh as Lindley walked and Simmons and Ginn singled.
Burr and Ryan Porter reached on errors in the seventh, but Fortenberry struck out the other three batters he faced.
Robinson and Fortenberry struck out nine Rebel batters. They walked seven and hit two batters.
&uot;Our pitchers struggled a bit, but overall I thought they had good velocity and hit their spots,&uot; Jackson said.
Parklane had eight hits.
&uot;I thought we got a lot of cheap hits,&uot; Jackson said. &uot;But that’s the way baseball goes.&uot;
Lipscomb said he is still looking for a leader on the Rebel team.
&uot;The biggest thing is that we don’t have anybody that will take charge and go after the ball,&uot;&160;Lipscomb said. &uot;They are thinking too much.&uot;
