Bishop Street residents thanked Natchez aldermen Tuesday night for agreeing to make that street one-way.
&uot;Thank you,&uot; Sylvia Anderson told aldermen. &uot;I’ve had the problem of getting my car hit on (that street).&uot;
Residents had petitioned the city to make the narrow street one-way.
At the suggestion of Natchez&160;Police Chief Willie Huff, the board also decided to switch the direction of Beaumont Street, which intersects Bishop Street.
&uot;These are narrow streets, with parking allowed on both sides,&uot; Huff said. He asked the board to allow him and other city officials to study the traffic patterns on surrounding streets.
&uot;We may come back with a suggestion to make other streets one way to alleviate congestion we may have,&uot; Huff said.
Huff did not pinpoint a day to switch the streets’ directions, but he said he would like at least 10 days to notify residents.
Bishop Street resident Carl Hayes also thanked the board for its approval of the change.
&uot;Everyone is for it,&uot; he said of his fellow residents. &uot;They said Bishop Street should have been one way years ago.&uot;
