NATCHEZ — A wide variety of events are on deck for what should be a beautiful weekend.

The scorching temperatures will start to drop Saturday, with a slight chance of an isolated storm.

Second Saturday

Second Saturday in Downtown Natchez begins at 10 a.m. on the bluff with Art on the Bluff.

Artists and craft makers will showcase a variety of handmade items.

Natchez Downtown Development Association president Yvonne Murray said there will be six to 10 booths set up and some items would be for sale.

Beginning at 1 p.m., Carolyn Weir will give a demonstration on mobile building.

From 2 to 5 p.m., the Natchez Art Association is sponsoring a free painting class. Families will get a chance to paint the Mississippi River Bridge, the river or the surrounding cityscape.

Murray said the class is open to everybody regardless of skill.

Art on the Bluff is free of charge and ends at 5 p.m.

“We are promoting local art and trying to help artists by providing another opportunity to show their work,” Murray said.

Second Saturday won’t end with Art on the Bluff. Downtown stores will stay open until 8 p.m.

Hollywood comes to Natchez

The Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, the Natchez Convention and Visitor Bureau, Copiah-Lincoln Community College and the Natchez National Historical Park are sponsoring a showing of “Shade of the Raintree,” at 4 p.m. at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center theater.

The film is one of a seven-part series titled, “Hollywood Comes to Natchez: A Civil War Series.”

After the movie, Co-Lin history instructor James Wiggins will lead an open discussion.

Friday Forum

Natchez-Adams County Humane Society president Barbara Platte, Marbeth Schon and Co-Lin academic counselor Nancy McFarland are this week’s guests for Friday Forum at the Natchez Coffee Company sponsored by the Natchez Chamber of Commerce.

Platte will discuss Bark in the Park, Schon will discuss Second Saturday in Downtown Natchez and McFarland will talk about the Krewe of Fat Mama’s 2012 Natchez Poker Run.

The weekly forum begins at 8 a.m.

Football Friday

Cathedral School is hosting Resurrection at 7:30 p.m. The Green Wave will be dressed out in pick uniforms in support of breast cancer for the school “Pink Wave” campaign.

Wilkinson County Christian Academy is hosting Centreville Academy and Ferriday High School is hosting Block High School. Both games begin at 7 p.m. Wilkinson County High School is hosting South Pike at 7:30 p.m.

Trinity Episcopal travels to Silliman, Adams County Christian School travels to Central Private and Vidalia High School travels to Delhi Charter for 7 p.m. kickoffs.

Natchez High School travels to Warren Central for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
