NATCHEZ — It has been two years since the Adams County Christian School football team has put together three-consecutive wins.

Friday the Rebels will look to do just that when they travel to face Central Private School.

“This is a big game for us to get over that hump,” head coach David King said. “We just have to keep that motivation the kids have of wanting to get better. They are finally able to see themselves getting better and see that the effort to realize what we’re talking about is paying off.”

King said the Rebels’ third-straight win would not come easy however.

“Central Private is well-coached, and their kids are used to winning,” King said.

Last season ACCS lost to Central Private 27-0, and King said not much has changed with the Central Private team.

“They seem to be about the same team,” he said. “They are a physical team, and we have to be physical like we were physical last week.”

The Rebels will also face the challenge of playing on the road for the second-consecutive week and dealing with a different schedule caused by the Labor Day Holiday and Tropical Storm Isaac.

“You have to be able to improvise and overcome to adapt,” King said. “To be a student athlete, you have to be a juggler.”

King said he just wants to see the team focused more on getting better each week than continuing its winning streak.

“We started off an unorganized bunch, and we’ve developed to the point where we are almost a football team,” he joked.

ACCS will travel to Baker, La., to face Central Private with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.

Trinity at Silliman

The Trinity Episcopal football team scored just six points in its first two games of the 2012 season.

But Monday at Bowling Green School the Saints showed how effective their offense can be in a 41-20, road victory.

This week Trinity hopes to ride that momentum into its contest at Silliman Institute, head coach Josh Loy said.

“It was a much needed win,” he said. “We played two really good football teams to start the season, and it was good to see us bounce back and get a victory. I was pleased to get that under our belt.”

The Saints have to fight a short week of practice and another road trip this week before going up against a 2-1 Silliman team.

“It’s going to be a challenge,” Loy said. “We pulled the bus in late Monday night, and we’ll have it rolling out early Friday afternoon. We know it will be a very boisterous crowd, and we hope we have a lot of supporters there as well.”

When Trinity and its supporters get to Clinton, La., they will find a physical Wildcat football team waiting, Loy said.

“They are very athletic and big,” he said. “Their offensive line will be one of the bigger fronts we’ve seen.”

Trinity (1-2) and Silliman will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday.
